Why become a retirement coach?
We recognize that while retirement is one of the most anticipated of life’s transitions, it is also quite misunderstood. Many people count down the days to “freedom” only to realize that this life phase is quite different than expected, eliciting a host of feelings that include depression, anxiety and guilt – such as why am I not enjoying long days filled with no obligations or responsibilities?

About the program
The Certified Professional Retirement Coach Designation was established in 2004 by the Inspired Business Institute and was acquired by Robert Laura and the Retirement Project LLC in 2016. Since the acquisition, the program went through an extensive upgrade, including the addition of a new learning management system. The course retirement book was revamped and turned into a curriculum-based modular program so that retirement coaches would have a duplicatable, easy to follow method they can use to get desired results with clients.
Today, the CPRC designation is an industry leader focused on helping clients plan for a comprehensive retirement that includes five key areas of retirement:
- Spiritual
- Mental
- Social
- Physical
- Financial
The Certified Professional Retirement Coach program includes eight modules and blends opportunities for self-study as well as opportunities to interact with other students and certified retirement coaches. You also have access to myself, Bob and Dori and we meet at our annual conference in Detroit every September.
You won’t be forced to watch hours of boring PowerPoint videos or listen to endless mediocre audio recordings. There is approximately 20-24 hours of course content and work. The amount of time it takes to complete each module is dependent upon the coach’s learning style, but is estimated to take 2-3 hours. Additionally, the certification requires 12 hours of practice coaching.
